New Water
New Water is a perspective of the Te Waihou Awa in the Waikato region of Aotearoa. The sister images sit side by side, offering a glimpse into the intricate beauty of a world birthed from a place of purity.
The water begins its journey as rainfall on the Mamaku Plateau and travels beneath Papatūānukuthrough soil and rock, where it is naturally filtered before resting underground for many years. Slowly it rises, emerging into the atmosphere to begin its 150 km journey to Kopu, where it meets Tikapa Moana and goes through the process of becoming kurutai and will never return to that introductory place of innocence again.
This documentation of place reflects the human mind, its many pathways, and the information it can come into contact with, which can enhance and mould our experience.

Rice Exhibition
A group exhibition in response to notions of self-care at Ūkaipo Gallery, Tāmaki Makaurau November - 2025
Curated by Chantel Mathews (Aotearoa) & Aya Takada (Japan)
Hinepūkohurangi (left) and Te papatākaro o Hine (right) emerged from a meditative practice of counting rice, a method used to navigate the inner noise of the mind. This process led to an exploration of whakapapa, culminating in the creation of these works. Captured in the Urewera National Park, these pieces complement and support the works that travelled from Japan as part of the exhibition.
